Chiang Rai, was founded in 1262 by King Meng Rai and was the first capital of Around Chiangrai City Lanna Thai (Kingdom of a Million Rice fields).
The province contains Thailand's northernmost point at Mae Sai which is well known for its crisp mountain scenery, and hilltribes.
The north end of the Chiang Rai province falls within the region known as the Golden Triangle, the area where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos converge.
The Chiang Rai province covers some 11,678 square km.
The provincial capital, also Chiang Rai is 829 kilometers north of Bangkok, and has its own international airport.
The city is also linked several times per day to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and all the other major cities by Bus Companies.

Less crowded than its sister city (Chiang Mai), Chiang Rai attracts many visitors looking for the wonderfull landscapes of the province.
Chiang Rai is an ideal place for nature lovers who enjoy waterfalls, montains, valleys, rivers, elephant camps, hill tribes, not to mention the temples of Chiang Rai City, the Night Bazaar, the "Chiang Rai beach", along the Mae Kok river, the northern style food, etc...
All these beautifull sites are reachable from Chiang Rai, and Jitaree Guest House, by motorcycle, car, bus, tours, ... and should not be missed.
